Recently the big red spotlight has been placed upon the South African government concerning Bullying, Harassment, and Violence in the workplace. They created the Draft Code of Good Practice on the Prevention and Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the workplace in response, and revealed it in August 2021.

The Draft Code introduced a wider list of definitions for the various forms of conduct that may constitute violence, harassment, and bullying in the modern workplace. The Draft Code is wider than sexual harassment to cover other forms of violence and harassment in the workplace. No one is fully aware when the Draft Code will be implemented.

Many companies make the mistake of thinking that if they’ve trained and educated their employees once, then they will always follow the health and safety procedures and policies… but most accidents are caused by unsafe acts of workers and the environment. This can lead to the employer being held responsible for any myriad of accidents!

The Draft Code is filled with difficult, new jargon that can make any employer want to pull their hair out in frustration and confusion!
If a WorkSafe inspector hasn’t knocked on your door yet, the chances are they will soon.
